What a gorgeous long weekend we had.

Look at how pretty it was at Awenda Provincial Park. We drove up just for the day and all the Trillium flowers where still in full bloom. This flower is the official flower of the Canadian Province of Ontario.

The water was still pretty cold but we still went for a swim…nice and refreshing.  And the water snake though she had to show how she could swim in the crystal clear water.

Was für ein wunderschönes langes Wochenende.

Schau, wie schön es war in Awenda Provincial Park. Wir fuhren nur für den Tag zu diesem Park und alle Trillium Blumen, waren in voller Blüte. Diese Blume ist auch die Kanadische Provicial  Blume von Ontario.

 Das Wasser war noch ziemlich kalt, doch hatte das uns nicht zurück gehalten doch ins Wasser zu gehen … schön und erfrischend. Und die Wasser Schlange die sich auch zeigen wollte konnte man so gut sehen in dem kristall klaren Wasser.

“Cowl” A Must Have November 10, 2011

So what is all the hype about Cowls this season…we had scarfs now it’s all about a cowl! 

Yes they are fun to knit but also they are perfect for this cold season.  Look at the one I just finished, I could say hot of the press….no wait hot of me needles would be better.

This yarn from Madelinetosh Tosh DK  is super soft and just slightly uneven with the colours.  So it gives this cowl (almost wrote “Scarf”) a unique fun colour tone.  Super easy and fast to knit and it is all in the rounds with needle size US 8 – 5.0 mm and only 2 skeins (about 450 yards or 411 meters)so great for TV knitting if you like.

Also, was ist all dieser hyp über  “Cowls” in diese Saison … wir hatten  Schals doch jetzt geht es um eine Cowls sind das Kapuze-Schals!?! 
 Ja, sie machen Spaß zu stricken, aber  sind auch perfekt für diese kalte Jahreszeit. Schaut herein ich habe diesen Cowl  vor ein paar Wochen  fertig gestrickt. Ich könnte sagen, “hot of the Presse” …. oh nein  heiss von meinen Nadeln wäre besser.
 
Dieses Garn aus Madelinetosh Tosh DK ist super weich und nur leicht meliert mit in der Farbe. So verleiht es diesem Cowl (fast schrieb ich “Schal”) ein einzigartigen Farbton. Super einfach und schnell zu stricken und es ist alles in der  Runde mit Nadel Größe US 8 bis 5,0 mm und nur 2 Stränge (ca.  411 Meter)  gestrickt. Perfect  für am  Fernseher zu stricken….

Phiaro Scarf

A  store sampler for Unwind….I like it.  Love how soft this yarn feels in your hand knitting and well also wearing it.   This pattern can be purchased from Katie Himmelberg  on Ravlery. 

 
    I knit this scarf with 4mm needles and 1 skein 437 yards or 399 meter of  Handmaiden Fine Yarn Sea Silk .
 Since I only have one skein of this, length was only 14 inches in total.
 Stunning Colours!!! Olive-green to coral-orange to yellow mix…perfect for the fall…
 
Kind of funny but after having knitted all these stitches I now have to drop some of them down….???
Next I have to cut the ends and braid those ends so they are secured…..lots of fun making this scarf…but time consuming and soooooo nice once finished…..can’t wait to show it to you all

 If you do not have the ability or interest to braid all these ends you could always just knot the ends in 3 strings together.

 

 

 

Phiaro Schal

Ein Sampler für Unwind Yarn House…. gefällt mir recht gut. So schön weich ist das Garn.  Es strickt und trägt sich auch gut. Dieses Muster kann  von Katie Himmelberg auf Ravlery erworben werden.
Ich stricke diesen Schal mit 4mm Nadeln und 1 Strang 437 Meter oder 399 Meter von “Handmaiden Fein Yarn Sea Silk”. Da ich nur einen  Kneuel davon zur Verwendung hatte wurde die Länge nur 14inches insgesamt anstat wie das Muster mit 22inches.

Atemberaubende Farben! Olive-Grün zu Korall-Orange bis Gelb gemischt … perfekt für den Herbst …

Irgendwie komisch, aber nachdem ich all diese Maschen stricken durfte muss ich eienige davon  jetzt fallen lassen….??
Nächstes durfte ich das Rund gestrickte Teil voneinener schneiden mit der Scheere…..was soll den dass???  Dann wurden die langen Fransen am Ende in Zöpfe geflochten.. .. viel Spaß macht diesen Schal doch schon zum stricken … aber zeitaufwendig und soooooo schön wenn er fertig ist.

 Wenn du  nicht  die Fähigkeit oder die Geduld hast  für alle die Zöpfe zu flechten, kanst Du je 3 Fransen zusammen Knoten damit die restlichen Maschen nicht auftrennen.

On my last visit in Switzerland we stopped by “Migros” in Rheinfelden…just look what they already had for all of us to buy at the beginning of March…lots and lots and lots of chocolate bunnies, chickens end eggs…hard to resist bringing some home to my family…

Ohh I just so love this little Bolero….the border is so simple but just gives this sweet thing the perfect finish…never mind the amazing soft yarn and look at the cables and then topped off with a wonderful pattern in seed stitches…

 Knit for Unwind Yarn House as another fun project.  This bolero is knit with 4 skeins = 358.7 yards (328.0m)  yarn from Sirdar Spinning Ltd. called  “Sirdar Snuggly White Whispers” and the pattern is also available to buy in the book called  “Sirdar 396,Tiny White Whispers”

 

The pattern is well written as long as you make sure you take it row by row!  Marking off the exact size as you go along with your knitting.  It could be confusing so just take it row by row …. but well written out….so have fun and knit one for that special baby not

 I do enjoy kniting with all the fun new yarns and with each season there are so many wonderful once available to start another new design.
Ohh ich liebe dieses kleine Baby Bolero …. Die Bolero ist so einfach, und  gerade dieses süße  Rüschchen Border-Muster ergibt die perfekte Bordüre… Neben bei auch das erstaundlich weiche Garn.  Abgerundet noch mit Zopfmuster.

Spring Flowers in Switzerland March 25, 2011

Well I do feel the spring but this was on my visit back home the first two weeks in March.  So nice and sunny, we had as always a great and unforgettable time back home.  At my home where I grew up…the grass if full of the flowers nothing like that you will see here in our neighborhood…just grass.  There it is grass with flowers growing in the grass…its fun to see.

 It’s interesting… I find every year when I talk to my mom and dad during this time they are about a month ahead with the weather.  And as it was on March 23rd we had -10 degreese and 10cm snow and they had +22 degrees…wow what a difference

 

So auch ich fühle den Frühling doch das war auf unserm Besuch in der Schweiz in den ersten zwei Wochen im März.  So schön warm und sonning war es da.  Wir haben wie immer  viele schöne Erinnnerungen machen dürfen.  da zuhause in der Schweiz wachsen sogar die Blumen im Grass, so etwas sieht man eigenlich schon selten bei und in unserer Umgebung.  Etwas agnz anderes, doch auch schön.
 
Wenn ich dann so jedes Jahr um diese Zeit meine Familie anrufe, sind die etwa eine ganzen Monat mit dem Wetter voraus….auch so ist es jetzt wieder .  Am 23 März schneite es bei und hier in Kanada mit -10 Grad und 10 cm Schnee.  Doch in der Schweiz waren es ganze +22 Grad warm und sonning…wow was für ein Underschied….

A surprise for me from my wonderful husband. 

 Just for the two of us..having some nice quiet time together without the kids.  What a surprise this was for me…a memory to keep and I am blessed to have been able to spend it with my Love.  Amazing food, wonderful company my husband and the weather was just perfect too.

                                              It snowed ever so lightly and was all so quiet and soft..

 

  

  Eine sehr schöne Überraschung für mich von meinem lieben Mann.

 Nur für uns Zwei …Gemütliche Stunden zum Erholen und Entspannen ohne Kinder.  Wie schön dass doch war für uns….In Erinnerung wir das bei mir bleiben…und dankbar bin ich dass ich so eine schöne Zeit mit meinem lieben Mann verbringen durfte. Amazing Food, die beste Begleitung mein  Mann und das Wetter was gerade perfect.

So it was long overdue to knit a nice Norwegian Sweater for my hubby. 

 Finlay did get the yarn just a week before Christmas…too late to have it finished for a Christmas present.  I knit this wonderful warm sweater with “Cascade Yarn Ecological Wool”.  I doubled the yarn up to get the correct gauge and knit with needle size 8mm and 4 skeins in beige and 2 skeins in brown. The pattern is from the Filati Handkitting magazine Edition 41…

 

 

 

 

So war es längst überfällig diesen schönen  Norwegischen Pullover für meinen Ehemann zu stricken. 
 
 Es dauerte leider etwas diese Wolle zu bekommne mit nur eine Woche vor Weihnachten … zu spät, um es fertig su haben  für ein Weihnachtsgeschenk.  Gestrickt wurde dieser wunderbare warme Pullover mit “Cascade Garne Ökologische Wolle“.  Ich doppelte das Garn up damit die richtige Maschen Probe bekommen hatte und mit Nadelstärke 8 mm und 4 Stränge in Beige und 2 Stränge in Braun.  Das Muster ist aus dem Filati Magazin Ausgabe 41 Handkitting.

Well I thought it would be time for me to try this colour work too.  I had knit some of this before but always just kind of twisted the strings behind but dropping the yarn from my fingers and picked up the one yarn I needed at the time.  So this time I carried both yarn along on my figures and to my surprise it actually is not as hard as it looks.  I did find though if you knit in the round it is easier one can see the pattern where with the back and forth one really has to follow the chart to not make ant errors.  Or maybe it was just me getting used to it.

I knit a pair of wrist-warmers and a skating bum-warmer for my daughter.  Had some leftover yarn “Cascade Eco+” that I was using up and I am happy with the result too….. is not bad.  The pattern is from Drops Design (Garnstudio)

Nun, ich dachte, es wäre Zeit für mich, dieses Mehrfaben Stricken einmal wieder  auf den Nadlen zu haben.  Es ist nicht das erstemal das ich Fair Isle gestickt hatte,  zu der Zeit hatte ich immer nur eine Farbe Wolle auf dem Zeige-Finger gehalten und dann die Wolle gewächselt wie ich sie gebraucht hatte.     So dieses mal trug ich beide Garne entlang auf meinem Zeige-Finger und zu meiner Überraschung  war es tatsächlich nicht so schwer wie es aussieht.  Ich fand zwar, wenn ich in der Rundung gestrickt hatte war es einfacher da ich das Muster vormir sah.  Doch wenn ich hin und her gestrickt hatte für die Hand-Stulpen, da musste ich aufpassen.  Das Muster zeight sich ja nicht gleich wie auf der forder Seite.  Vielleicht war es ja nur mich, da ich mich darn gewöhnen musste.
 
Hatte etwas an Restwolle  “Cascade Eco +” So brauchte ich dies Wolle  für Hand-Stulpen und Hüften-Wärmer für den Winter zum Schlittschuh laufen zu gehen. Das Ergebnis ist nicht schlecht. Das Muster ist von Drops Design (Garnstudio)

What a treat this is for the kids…Young and Old.

  Their itching to knock the Icicles off….but now they are so big and getting longer every day that even the older kids are fascinated seeing this.  I wonder how long I am able to keep them there before someone can’t resist.  Smile…..perhaps the Spring will knock it of for me.  But that for sure is not today with this winter storm we are having here since last night.

Was für eine ”Jucken” ist dies für … Jung und Alt.

   Es juckt die Eiszapfen abschlagen …. aber jetzt sind sie so groß und wachsen immer mehr jeden Tag, dass auch die älteren Kinder fasziniert sind  diese zu sehen. Ich frage mich doch, wie lange ich in der Lage bin die Eiszapfen unberührt dort zu halten, bis jemand es nicht widerstehen kann und sie abschlägt. Lächeln ….. vielleicht wird der Frühling diese von mir nehemen.  Aber das ist sicher nicht Heute mit diesem Wintersturm den wir seit der letzten Nacht haben.

A hat for someone nice…..

This pattern is from Garnstudio  available for free to download ” 123-20 Basque Hat with Cable”

  I used only about 1/3 of a skein from Cascade Yarns Ecological Wool.  With needle Size 3.5mm for the ribbing and  then I switching to 5mm needles to work the cable pattern.

   I have to say so far I am very happy with this Cascade Eco Wool it knits up very nice and it never ends. 

 I have knit my Fall Cardigan with Hood and felted Slippers with the same yarn and it has worn very nice too.

 Ich brauchte nur etwa 1/3 von dem Kneuel von Cascade Yarns Ecological Wolle.  Mit Nadel # 3.5mm habe ich das Ripen Muster angefangen dann mit Nadel # 5mm weiter das Zopf Muster gestrickt.

Ich muss sagen mit  dieser Wolle stricke ich gern,  die verstickt sich auch schön weit.  Habe auch schon meinen Herbst Cardigan mit Hood und Gefiltze Finken im letzten Jahr gestrickte.  Soweit ich sagen darf sieht die immer noch schön aus.

This pattern for this scarf was in an older Vogue Knitting magazine from the Winter of 2003/04 Issues.

 We had it pretty cold here in the past view days, minus 30 degrees and I remembered I had this nice and warm snuggly scarf knit already seven years ago…wow  seven years have gone by…

The pattern is called ”Ribbed Scarf with Collar”.   This pattern may also be available from  www.LionBrand.com  a very easy pattern.  I had used a relatively inexpensive yarn called “Patons Allure” from Michael’s. with needle size 5mm but how many skeins I used unfortunately I did not write down.

Dieses Muster für diesen Schal habe ich von Vogue Knitting Magazin fon der Winter Ausgabe 2003/04 her. 

 Wir hatten es so supper kalt hier in den letzten paar Tagen( Minus 30 Grad), dass ich mich an diesen Schal erinnert hatte.  So weich und warm ist dieser Schal. Den habe ich ja auch schon vor sieben Jahren  gestrickt ….wow ganze sieben Jahre ist dass schon her…

Das Muster heisst ” Ribbed Scarf with Collar” es ist sehr wahrscheindlich auch bei www.LionBrand.com erhältlich.  Ein sehr einfaches Muster.  Ich brauchte eine eigendlich günstige Wolle ”Patons Allure” die ich von Michael’s gekauft hatte.  Mit Nadel nummer 5mm habe ich den Schal verstickt.  Doch habe ich leider nicht markiert wie viele Strangen ich gebraucht hatte dazu.

So I just had to knit this one scarf for my husband too.  This one is not so thick and looks like it has been woven rather then knit…  I like it too, the look is more like an executive scarf under a business coat.  Like one you would buy in a store.  Still soft and I hope it will keep him warm to on the drive to work…This scarf too is from the www.raverly.com site available for download by Hilary Smith Callis. For this one I used a yarn called “Sweetgeorgia” Hand Painted Yarns.

The callculations and gauge would be: 28sts will give me 4inches on a 3.5mm needle…so I am cast  355stitches on… using one skein and the finished  measurements are 52inches (122cm)long and 6.5 inches (16cm) wide. This is a fun pattern…
I love the colours in this scarf and how they flow into each other. I hope it will get lots of wear and will kepp him warm too…

 

 So ein zweiter Schal  für meinen Mann. Dieser schal ist nicht so dick und sieht aus wie gewoben, anstatt gestrickt … Passed gut unter einem Business-Mantel. Wie von einem Geschäft kaufen, doch weich und ich hoffe, es hält ihn warm auf der Fahrt zur Arbeit … Dieser Schal ist auch von der Website www.raverly.com zur Verfügung von Hilary Smith Callis. Für diesen Schal habe ich ein Garn ”Sweetgeorgia” handbemalt Garne benutzt.

Die Massen dazu habe ich so bestimmt: 28 Maschen gibt mir 10 cm mit einer 3,5 mm Nadel … so habe  ich 355 Maschen aufgefasst. Eine Strang Wolle  und das fertige Mass ist 122 cm lang und 16 cm breit. Ein interresantes Muster …
