Snowshoeing at Tiffin Conservation Park

Frozen pond well not all the way

DCIM100SPORT

Snowshoeing for my first time this past weekend with my hubby and having a wonderful time together.

Tiffin Conservation Park is just about 20 minutes outside Barrie. Yes how could I not take my camera along… perfect day for lots of great pictures and spending time together. Treasured every moment of it…

We came across some wonderful ponds that have been frozen over. A father with is kids where playing hocky on the frozen part ..further down from them, where two ducks enjoying the open streams.

Tiffin Conservation Park is also having “The Spring Tonic Maple Syrup Festival” coming up in April.

Sugar Shak

Sugar Shak

So in some of the pictures you can see they are taping the Maple trees already for the sugar run…nothing flowing yet…still to cold.

At one point we did wander off the main track>>> We have snowshoes so why stay on the track.   Wooo…all I say to my hubby “Do you know what that could be?”  Let’s go!!!  I am not waiting around to see…but I had to take two quick pictures….you can tell me if you think the same as I do. Could this be a winter bear den,  what do you think?

I believe this could be a winter Bear Den? What do You think? let me know

I believe this could be a winter Bear Den? What do You think? let me know

Later on as we moved on, we came across some really neat winter survival huts. I would guess they been put up by he staff working at Tiffin for the “Maple Syrup Festival”.  Really cool, we just could not resist to try them out. Some where all covered up by snow which gives it more warmth I would think.

What a wonderful and happy Sunday I had with my hubby…looking forward to going soon again.IMG_0998

My Snowshoes

My new Home if I do not behave...LOL that never happens...

My new Home if I do not behave…LOL that never happens…

We had some really windy days and snow blowing all the way there and though out the weekend as you can see

Hats, Hats And More Hats

IMG_0223Yes it is all about the HATS this month…

And that times 20 in all.  I think I am all done for now.

Truly hade been busy knitting each one of them in a different colour pattern almost made it one a day.

Though it is the same pattern, well 15th of them are in the Pressed Rib Cap & Muffler pattern by Churchmouse for the boys.   Another five hats where knit in the Rikke Hat pattern by Sarah Young for the girls.IMG_0226

All the hats are to be given to a shelter by a customer of ours. I truly was a great project to knit the for her…and the teenagers that will receive them.

I truly hope it will keep them warm and they too will like them as much as I enjoyed knitting them for them.

Say warm and well.

IMG_0156

“BOLT” Into Colours For The Fall

2013-10-07 17.00.54If You love to play with colours and have some fun with unique patterns then you should have a go at this great pattern called

by Veera Välimäki

available on Ravelry.com

We “The Yarn Sore” just received a big order from Dye Hard Fibre Arts SW Merino fingering  with amazing colours.

I would say perfect for this “Bolt” shawl. We had several great choices put together for me to knit up.

2013-09-19 16.38.35We thought brown and orange where perfect for this Season.

Thanksgiving weekend just passed and Halloween around the corner…

1 skein =  408.0 yards (373.1m) Colorway #100 brown & one skein in pennies from heaven a nice orange colour. I hade about 20 grams left of each skein.  MC is my Orange colour CC is the brown colour

Riesenbovist Mushroom

2013-09-19 11.19.25

I put a Pumpkin beside this one so you can see how big that Riesenbovist ist

The  Riesenbovist is so huge …I could not believe my eyes it is sooo big.

The Giant puff-ball is about 10-50 cm in diameter, is round and without a stem. The skin is smooth and leathery.

2013-09-19 11.20.41

And if you still not see the size …have a look at this big knife beside this one

I honestly never seen a mushroom that size.

One can even eat them! Cut them into slices and fry them up like a steak…we decided not to go for that though and leave them where they where..in this wonderful green forest.

2013-09-19 12.02.18

left as is in the Forest

This is the bottom of the Mushroom where it sat on the ground...so BIG

This is the bottom of the Mushroom where it sat on the ground…so BIG

2013-09-19 12.02.37

in this picture you can see one that is still fresh and two that are already brown and no longer good to eat…from what I have been told.

“Parrots” In The Fall

Have a look at this Fall arrangement….. I remember from my childhood these “Parrots2013-10-01 16.44.23“, Milkweed (Silkweed) as they are called in English http://www.ediblewildfood.com/milkweed.aspx

My mind tells me, that my “Mutt” (btw. this is a short form for “Mutter” Mom in Swiss)  always had some of them in some kind of flower arrangement by the front door. I just wish I could remember this more clearly.DSC03940

Just always called them Parrots…since they look like it.

They show off this wonderful display of white glistening seed when You open them up and blow at them…they fly in the sky and drift off every so lightly…one just likes to go drift with them into to sunny sky.DSC04117

My son even found a recipe for this: http://the3foragers.blogspot.ca/2011_07_01_archive.html

2013-09-14 09.11.48It is amazing to see all the booths  going up in many hours of: How should this look, where do we place this skein. Should we put it up in rows of colours or in the same weight?  How  many colours do we have? No here it goes…or Ana I need this for here. Giggles and smiles we had…2013-09-14 09.12.11

Resting at night not sure how the others did but I did not do much of that ….my mind was on the next day’s show….and hoping  all goes just as planned….GREAT!!!

2013-09-14 09.12.06Then the taking it all down in what…???only  1/3 of the time it took to put it up….

Truly something to experience from what my Mom (how is visiting from Switzerland2013-09-14 09.12.16) is telling me. She too enjoyed every moment of it …

Wasp Nest I have in my Shed again this year….not sure what I have to do to make sure they do not come back next year again. Any Idea?

See what is in my backyard…last night I found this wasp nest in my shed and this morning this chipmunk was waiting for me on the deck…I think I like the second much better. Though the wasp where all cold and did not move at all…I made sure I would not ….DSC04487drop the lid though…who knows what they would do to me if that would have happened….

Teen Knitting Is A Huge Trend Today

I-Pod Cozie Owl I found on the internet

I am so happy to ready this article that my hubby sent me a view days ago. He is always on the look out for me to get new ideas in Knitting, Quilting, Home Decorations, Family, What is the newest Fashion…you name it he will find it for me.

So please have a look at this link I posted here It talks all about YESSS

“Teen knitting is a huge trend today”

And not just with girls…Yes the Boys are realizing they meet the girls if they learn to knit or crochet …how about that for a change….

http://voices.yahoo.com/teen-knitting-internet-has-made-grandmas-hobby-24274.html

(As per this Article and I just picked a view lines that popped for me in this article:)

“Books about teen knitting are flying off the shelves faster than ever before, and high school knitting clubs are popping up everywhere. Unlike many other crafts, knitting is very accessible and satisfying for beginners, which is one reason why teen knitting is suddenly so hip. Teen knitting is most popular with girls, but more and more guys are picking up the hobby too. From stylish and cozy caps to ultra-modern iPod cozies, teen knitting today is about much more than just sweaters.
Teen knitting clubs are a logical offshoot of this new trend. Although knitting is in some ways a solitary activity, being part of a community of knitters is a great way to learn new techniques and get inspiration for new projects.  The social aspect of teen knitting is a big reason why it is so popular. A lot of teen knitting is done by boys who want to make unique laptop covers, clothes that are the height of cool, or special gifts that any relative or girlfriend are sure to appreciate. The fact that teen knitting isn’t just a trend among girls really says something about how much gender roles have changed since grandma started making mittens.”

I Pod Cozie 4This is just to show you a view I-Pod Cozies that I found looking on the internet…really cool ideas. Some are Knit and some are crochet.
